My HAIR Journey

I have always wanted long and thick hair…who doesn’t?! BUT, I also wanted it to be platinum blonde.

At 18, I began with highlights and every time I did a retouch, I added in more. I finally became platinum but my hair was getting shorter and shorter, thinner and thinner. The split ends started from the top of my head and went all the way down to the straggly tips. I knew that I was not taking good care of my hair but I was platinum and I loved it, even if it was dead.

When Whitney got sick, I started caring about it all. Everything that I ingested to what I put on my body. I wanted to be healthy from the inside out. I rethought the situation and found a great place that does hair in a healthier way than most conventional places. Like I’ve said before, I am not a doctor, a nutritionist or even a hair care professional. I am a mother who is obsessed with health, organic living and anything green. I don’t do everything right but I do try to balance modern life with my extreme way of thinking.

So what salon do I go to? Spa Adriana in Huntington. They are an Aveda hair salon and only use Aveda hair care. Not only are their color products safer but the method of application is well thought out so that your hair regains its strength. What IS in their hair color? Well, it is not necessarily ALL green and plant-based. It does need ingredients that have the power to do high-lift dyes. That being said, it is “formulated without nitro dyes, parabens and animal-derived ingredients” and “full spectrum hair color is up to 99% naturally derived using plant power instead of petrochemicals.”-Aveda.com. High-lift dyes are a little lower. Ingredients are certified organic when possible or often plant-derived. So far it is the best option I have found for achieving the color I want. There are so many Aveda salon locations nationwide too! If you pop into Spa Adriana, make your initial appointment with John. He is a master colorist. Tell him I sent you for $20 off your first consultation. Wherever you go, look into safer hair color. Your hair and body will thank you! There are options popping up everywhere. The best tip they gave me was never to touch my hair straightener, always blow dry instead.

1st photo– Flat, stringy, thin hair with a lot of breakage BUT it was blonde!
2nd photo– A few weeks after my first visit to Spa Adriana. They chopped all my hair off because it was so dead. I wasn’t entirely happy with the golden color but John urged me to be patient and said he would do minimal highlights twice a year once it was strong enough.
3rd photo– It has now been 3.5 years and my hair hasn’t been this long since I was 18. It is thicker than ever despite the baby hair that constantly falls out after childbearing. This photo is a few weeks ago. I showered and blew out my hair myself. Finally! The color I want and the length I love!
