If you know me, I am big into my porridge! For me and the kids! You can shove anything in it. It is a powerhouse of protein, good carbs and important fat. Throw out those ready-made oatmeal packets that are full of sugar, salt and ingredients you do not understand and make your own! It will take 15-20 minutes.
How to create YOUR favorite porridge
Pick one or two from each category:
Grains:
Steel Cut Oats
Rolled Oats
Cream of Buckwheat
Millet
Kasha
Amaranth
Quinoa
Milk:
Creamy Coconut Milk
Delicious Almond Milk
Milk of your choice
Nuts: (You can chop them or leave them whole.)
Walnuts
Pecans
Cashews
Almonds
Pumpkin seeds
Dried Fruit:
Raisins
Golden raisins
Goji berries
Golden berries
Dates- cut into pieces
Apricots- cut into pieces
Sweeteners: (Depending on the grain and the fruit you toss in, you may need a sweetener.)
Honey
Maple syrup
Brown rice syrup
Coconut syrup
Malasses
Extras:
Shredded coconut- unsweetened
Chia seeds
Berries- frozen or fresh
Bananas
Apples
Pears
Any fruit that is in season
Toppings:
Fresh berries
Sliced banana
